Holiday Greeting - Make It All About Dad

Holiday Greeting - Make It All About Dad

| June 14, 2018

There are many perceived requirements of being a dad. “One of the jobs of a good dad is to help kids become a little tougher, a little more resilient, a little more separate…dads push kids to leave the nest; they brush off the dirt from their knees when they fall; and they encourage their kids to get back in the game when they want to quit…And just like kids need moms to help them be emotionally sensitive, they need dads to help them roll with the punches,” wrote a contributor to Psychology Today.1

In reality, every dad is as unique as his children are. This year, spend Father’s Day learning more about your dad. One way to accomplish this is by conducting a ‘Dad Survey.’ Here are a few questions you can ask:

1. What is your favorite story about your parents or grandparents?
2. What did your room look like while growing up?
3. Who was your closest friend when you were young and how did you meet?
4. What memorable adventures have you experienced?
5. How did you find your first job?
6. What was your first car?
7. What was the longest road trip you took in that car?

Asking these questions, or others like them, may reveal new stories or commonalities you didn’t know existed. More importantly, they will bring you closer to the dads in your life. We wish all dads a Happy Father’s Day!
